I hope everyone enjoyed the time away from school and had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'm still full, how about you?
At this time all students should have a graphing notebook. This has been a requirement for science since September 1. Students that do not have them are having trouble keeping track of assignments owed. Please obtain one if you still don't have one. Students spent time in the lab making a solution of copper sulfate. We will go back to the science lab on Monday to see what we have created after allowing the solution ample time to cool. Were we able to make crystals? What are crystals? How do they form? We will use the stereo microscopes to draw conclusions. We are at the end of our Structure of Matter unit. An assessment will be given at week's end. I have already posted the study guide and 2 review videos to aid you in your preparation. Do not wait until the last minute to prepare. Ask questions if necessary. Prepare a little each night. Good test results will follow! I am in the process of assessing your notebooks. As reminded numerous times, there are 5 assignments (all done in class) that need to be complete. Please use your agendas, organize your case-its, and stay for department night if you need any additional support. Have a week filled with learning! Mrs. M :) Extra Credit is due by December 2: 1. Now that Pluto is no longer included, how many planets are there in the Solar System? 2. What is the smallest planet in the Solar System? 3. What is the largest planet in the Solar System? 4. The Patriots put another W on the board and maintain 1st place! Hopefully, they can keep it going.
Students received their report cards on Friday. So many students did a great job in science. Be sure to keep it going as we move into quarter 2. For those of you who are disappointed in your performance, now is a good time to think of strategies of how you can improve. Students need to make sure they have a graphing notebook. This has been a requirement since September, yet many still do not have one. I am in the process of assessing work that has been completed in your notebooks. We are off to the science lab on Tuesday and Wednesday. How does the rate of cooling affect the types of molecules that form? You will love this lab! Enjoy this short week but more importantly enjoy this time to be thankful for the friends and family that you have. I wish all my students and their families a delightful Thanksgiving. Be sure to eat until your belly is more than full! Mrs. M:) Extra Credit is due by November 28: 1) Name the other ship that had originally sailed with the Mayflower. 2) How many days did the voyage take and were did they land? 3) How many people traveled aboard? "Science is fun. Science is curiosity. We all have natural curiosity. Science is a process of investigating. It's posing questions and coming up with a method. It's delving in."
Sally Ride The quarter has come to an end. Many of you have a lot to be proud of, you worked hard and your grades reflect that. Moving onto the second quarter, think about what you did well on. Where would you like to show improvement? Be committed to using your agenda on a daily basis in all classes, visit this website weekly and take advantage of all the extra credit opportunities, stay for department when having difficulty with concepts, use your Case-Its to stay organized. Be sure to ask questions if you are confused or if you want clarification on something. This week we will focus on the Periodic Table of the Elements. Students will obtain a good understanding of what this very important table represents. We will build models of molecules that are formed from these substances. A very cool lab is coming soon, stay tuned! It's a short school week but a very important one for all of us living in America as we will be electing a new President of the United States. Mrs. M :) Extra Credit is due by November 14 : 1) Give the exact date and time when Daylight Saving Time ended. 2) Give the exact date and time of when it will begin again. 3) Name the 2 states that do not participate in Daylight Saving Time. 4) What famous person wrote the essay "An Economical Project" which was about Daylight Saving. 5) What president and in what year was the first to sign Daylight Saving Time into law? |
